Q. “Can God make a stone so big that He can’t lift it?”

A. First of all, C.S. Lewis once commented on this question by saying, “A stupid question is still a stupid question.” Basically, anyone asking this question doesn’t realize how big God is.

Secondly, the question is an impossibility. It can’t be done. It is like asking God to make a square circle. The property of one does not allow it to take on the properties of the other. Therefore, it doesn’t take power away from an all powerful God. (Keep in mind, this is the God who SPOKE the world into existence!)

Q. “Prove God exists.”

A. Prove He doesn’t. If I tell you that I just saw a big, pink Easter bunny outside, until you go outside to see for yourself, all you can do is accept what I say as true because you can’t prove it is false until you go outside and see for yourself. Q. “But I have looked for God and couldn’t find Him, so he must not exist.” A. It is obvious that you didn’t honestly look for God because God Himself said, “if you seek you will find (Matt. 7:7).”

Q. “The Bible isn’t true because it has been tampered with. People just recently wrote in all the material for the New Testament after they read the Old Testament prophecies.”

A. This is untrue. First of all, it has not been until recently that some of the prophecies have been fulfilled, such as Israel becoming a nation in 1948. Secondly, the books of the New Testament were written during the great Roman Empire. Therefore, due to its protection, commerce was very efficient. This allowed copies of the New Testament to reach the outer limits of the empire with amazing speed. Because of this, it would have been impossible, (and still is today), for any one person to change the New Testament because that person would have had to change all the copies throughout the Roman Empire, which included the countries of Italy, Northern Africa, Israel, Egypt, and Asia Minor. Lastly, copies of the Bible are occasionally being discovered today, for example the recently found Dead Sea Scrolls. These newly found manuscripts have been translated and have matched up almost word for word with the Bible we have today, thus proving that there have been no alterations. Q. “But don’t the ancient Bible manuscripts contain hundreds of errors? Also, isn’t it true that not one manuscript out of 5,000 in existence matches up perfectly with one other? A. Yes, the manuscripts do contain hundreds of errors and not one of them matches up exactly to any one other. Do you know why? Because a misspelled word is considered an error! Therefore, if a manuscript had a misspelled word, it was deemed a “different” manuscript. (i.e. say, for instance, ten people sat down and copied by hand ten chapters out of a book. After close examination, each hand written copy was found to have spelling errors. Therefore, not one copy matched up exactly with the other copies. Does that mean that you do not have a good copy of the ten chapters? No, because when you compare all ten copies you can then reproduce an exact copy of the original because a misspelled word in one would be spelled correctly in the other nine!) That is what has been done with the Bible and that is how we know that we have THE Word of God. Q. “But doesn’t the Bible contradict itself?” In theology and doctrine; No. However, in a few eye witness accounts their are variations in some stories. Let me explain. If three people witness and accident and each are questioned individually, what a person will find is three different stories about the same event. One person said the car was “flying”. Another said it was going at average speed. It is these types of “contradictions” that are found in the scripture.

Q. “The Bible says that we shouldn’t kill, but there were many wars in the Old Testament and today, what’s the deal?”

A. Actually, there are three words for kill in the Hebrew language; Rashah - to murder; kill intentionally, Harag - to kill as in sacrificing animals, and Sarat - to slaughter, kill as in the mass killing of war. The Hebrew word used in Exodus 20:13 is “Rashah”; intentional, pre-meditated murder. Therefore the best translation into English is not, “you shall not kill”, but “you shall not murder.” The word used for the killings as of war in the Old Testament is “Sarat”. Therefore the killing of war does not contradict the sixth commandment; “You shall not murder.”

Q. “If God is a loving God, how could He send anyone to Hell?”

A. God doesn’t send anyone to Hell. Each person sends themselves. Each person knows deep down inside what is right or wrong, whether he/she has heard the gospel or not. Romans 2:15-16 states, “who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them, in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ...” It is upon these decisions that we make here on earth that will decide our future. If we deny God now, we will deny Him even on the day of judgment. You see, God can’t allow even the slightest amount of rebellion into the kingdom because if He does, that small sin, over eternity, will blossom into full blown rebellion. That is why we must be washed in the blood of Christ so that “we are made as white as snow.”

Q. “How could God allow my little brother to die?”

A. Death happens. Why? Because we sinned. It wasn’t meant to be this way. We were meant to live forever with no disease or death. Then humankind sinned. Enter disease and death. That is why God sent His son to die for us, so that we might be able to live one day in a state of total harmony and peace with Him, just like it was intended. If you think about it, death is really a sign of a loving God. Death, you see, is the one way God rescues us from our corrupt, cruel, disease stricken world. It would be a living hell if we had to live in this corrupt world forever.

Q. “If God is all powerful, why doesn’t He destroy Satan?”

A. Although God could squash Satan in a split second, He doesn’t because we as His creation are allowed free will. That includes Satan. If God took away Satan’s ability to choose we would fail to be free. Also, through Satan’s attacks, we draw closer and more reliant on God. (Keep in mind, it is only a matter of time before God does bind Satan and cast him into hell forever!)

Q. “Evolution is true.”

A. First let me remind you that it is not the LAW of evolution but the THEORY of evolution. In order for something to become law it must have substantial evidence. If evolution is still a theory, it is obvious that there is no proof.

Second, ask any evolutionist to show you one example of a species that has evolved into another species (i.e. cat evolving into a dog, etc.). They can’t do it because there aren’t any. The very basis of the theory is therefore refuted.

Lastly, ask the evolutionist where the material came from that sparked the BIG BANG. Something can’t come from nothing, right? [The fact is, at one point in time everyone has to believe in faith, even the evolutionists!]

Additional arguments:

- What did the Duckbill Platypus “evolve” from? It has the bill of a duck, it is a mammal, it lays eggs like a chicken, it has five toes but also webbed feet, it has cheek pouches like a squirrel, and lastly it has a spur on the inside of its heel that is connected to a venom gland.

- If evolution is a pyramid from simplest to most complex, and humans are at the top of the heap, why is it that humans only have 46 chromosomes, and some crayfish have over 200?

- According to evolutionists, there were twenty amino acids that were essential to the evolution process to occur. In order for life to spring forth, these acids had to be spontaneously formed out of the existing chemicals of methane, carbon dioxide, water vapor, and ammonia in the environment. These acids somehow had to be solidified, probably by lightning strikes. If this were true, with the random strikes, half the acids would be right handed, the other half left handed. The problem is that all of the optically active amino acids that would have been essential for life are left handed! Thus proving that this theory is wrong.

Q. “There is nothing wrong with abortion because scripture says nothing about it.”

A. First off, it is very dangerous to assume that because the Bible is silent in one specific area that it is therefore O.K. Secondly, abortion is the pre-meditated killing of a living, breathing human. We all know that matter is either living or it is non-living. A baby, even while it is in it’s mother’s womb it is alive. To intentionally stop it from being alive is murder. Q. “That may be true but a baby, when taken outside of it’s mother’s womb, can’t survive. Therefore it is the mother’s choice.” True, the baby wouldn’t survive, but if we took you out of your environment, say...the city, and we dropped you off in the middle of the woods all by yourself, you wouldn’t survive either. We are all dependent upon our environment and each other to live. Just like a baby and its mother. Q. “It is still the mother’s choice!” A. Wrong. It is not the mother’s choice. You see, actions bring about consequences. There are no choices with consequences. (i.e. If I choose to drive my car off a cliff, I don’t have a choice as to whether I want to be injured or not. It is a subsequent consequence of my action.) So is pregnancy. If you choose to have sex and you get pregnant, you don’t have a choice whether or not to stay pregnant. It is a consequence of your action. [The problem today is that people do not want to take responsibility for their actions.]

Q. Is drinking alcohol a sin? Afterall, Jesus and his disciples drank wine.

A. If you are at a party and people are casually drinking, is it o.k. for a Christian to drink? For this we need to look to the Bible. One verse says, "Wine produces mockers; liquor leads to brawls. Whoever is led astray by drink cannot be wise" (Proverbs 20:1). Yet another verse says, "How terrible it will be for you who make your neighbors drunk" (Habakkuk 2:15)! But, as you can see, the only thing found in scriptures deals with drunkeness. To drink casually according to the Bible, is allowed.. However, let me continue.

I will never touch a drop of alcohol for three reasons:1.) Alcohol, to some people, is addictive. All it takes for certain people to become an alcoholic is one drink. That is it! Because I don't know if I am that way or not, I will never try it to find out. 2.) Alcohol destroys families. Some of you who are reading this probably know from first hand experience. When a person drinks they become more depressed. The more they drink the more depressed they get and the more they lose control of themselves. Then they take it out on their family and friends. On top of that, alcohol is just down right expensive. Many families struggle financially because of alcohol dependancy. 3.) Finally, and most important. There was an instance in scripture where Peter wrote to Paul and asked if he should eat certain food that had been sacrificed to idols. Paul responded by saying to Peter that he had no problem with him eating such food. However, if eating such food made his friends stumble and turn from the faith, then he should not eat it. The same goes with alcohol. What would happen if I were to be seen by some of my friends drinking a glass of wine and one of them was a recovering alcoholic? What would happen if that person started drinking again because they saw me doing it? I'll tell you what would happen. I would be held responsible by God for that person becoming an alcoholic.

As far as Jesus and his disciples drinking wine, they drank a weak form of fermented grape juice. It was not near as powerful or potent as the stuff we have today.

Q. Is there anything wrong with gambling?

Absolutely. The first point we need to establish is this. Who does your money belong to? According to scriptures all things are given to us by God. Everything is on loan from Him. If this is true, then the money that is in our pockets is God's, not ours. To put God's money on a table and bet on anything, whether it be a roulette wheel, a poker hand, a bingo card, or a lottery ticket is just plan carelessness. To make matters worse, some people even tell God, "O.k. God, I will use all the money I win for your good if you just help me win." Now the person is not only being careless with God's money but is also putting God to the test which is flat out sin.

It should also be noted the gambling is also addictive. Many a family has fallen apart because all of their money was lost trying to "get rich quick". There are no simple ways of getting rich quick. Only hard work and good investments can earn you money. That takes time and patience. For that there is no substitute.

Q. The other day I say a hypnotist on TV. How should a Christian feel about hypnotism?

Because the Bible says nothing about hypnotism directly then it is o.k. Right? Wrong. Even though it is not mentioned specifically, there are verses that deal with the mind. For instance, I Corinthians 2:16, "...'Who can know what the Lord is thinking? Who can give Him counsel?' But we can understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ."

Let's analize hypnotism for a moment. Hypnotism is a trance like state that you fall into by suggestion. While under this trance, you are more susceptible to do things you normally wouldn't do because your conscience is sort of put into neutral. That leaves your mind open to whatever the hypnotist wishes to put into it. Therefore, when you are hypnotized, who is in control of your mind? The hypnotizer.

Q. When will the world come to an end?

I can't count the number of times I have heard that the end of the world would be in the year 2000. Whoops. I guess they weren't listening to God. So what does the Bible say about the end times? Although there are many "signs of the end times" found in the Bible, Jesus was very specific in answering this very question. He said this, "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven but my Father only" Matthew 24:36. Not even Jesus Himself knew when the end would come! Therefore if you hear anyone say, "I know when the end will come" they are a false prophet. Do not listen to them. Prepare to live your life for 100 years but be ready for the Lord to come back tonight.

Q. Where did the wide diversity of people groups come from?

According to the Bible all races started back with Noah after the great flood. Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. From each one came a certain group of people. From the lineage of Ham came the Egyptians, the Etheopians, and other black races. From Japheth came the Greeks and those who migrated to present day Europe and Russia. From Shem came the Jews, Arabians, and Persians.

Q. Does playing around with demons through fortune-telling, Ouija boards and other such games lead to demon possession?

Not necessarily but it does open wide the door to your soul. If you start to meditate on demonic images and symbols. If you start reading and casting spells or asking for answers from a Ouija board you are only asking for demons to trick and deceive you. The Bible says that we are not to consult mediums and sooth-sayers and for good reason. The demons will use any opportunity to get into your mind and what better way than when you meditate on them and ask them questions.

Q. How does the Bible view Homosexuality?

The Bible is quite clear on such an issue. "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not enter the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals... will inherit the kingdom of God" I Corinthians 6:9 & 10. There is no argument. Some will say, "Oh yes, but homosexuality is genetic." It is no more genetic than stealing or anything else. Just because I have an urge to go out and steal a brand new car does not mean that I should do it! Nor does it mean that I have the right to do it either! To say that a homosexual is allowed to practice his "alternative lifestyle" because he has "natural urges" is crazy.

There is one important point I would like to make concerning this issue. We as Christians must learn to hate the sin but love the sinner. We are no better than any homosexual on the face of this earth. The only difference between us and them is the saving, cleansing power of Jesus Christ in us. We must be friendly and communicate this love to them, just as Christ communicated that same love to lepers. Don't get me wrong, I am not telling you to accept homosexuality. I am telling you to accept the homosexual like a person. Be their friend. You may be the only friend they have.
