Starting
with the Women of the Bible expanion set came an all new type of
card called the site card. Before their release, a player
would place his/her Lost Soul cards into a general land of bondage.
A player could attack as long as he had a hero to attack with. With
the addition of sites, another strategy was added to the game. Now
a player can place a Lost Soul into a specific site that his/her
opponent can only access with the appropriate color hero or site.
(There are sites for each color of good brigade.) A player may only
attack if he has the same color hero as the site holding the lost
soul or if he/she has an unoccupied site of the same color
in play. (Of course, if there are lost souls in the general
land of bondage you may always attack because no specific color
hero is needed.) If there are lost souls in sites and in the
general land of bondage, the defender has the right to decide which
lost soul you will fight for.
Site
cards can be played in one of two ways: 1.) It can hold a Lost Soul
or captured hero. 2.) It can be left open (not occupied) to gain
access to an opponent's site of the same color.
Option
1:
Whenever
you draw a site card, you place it into your territory. If
you have a lost soul(s) in your land of bondage, you may move one
to the unoccupied site. This is done to deter your opponent from
rescuing it. It is good strategy to note what color of sites
your opponent plays with and what brigades he plays with.
For example, if they play with the purple brigade, it would be pointless
to place the lost soul in a purple site. Leave the site open
so you have access to your opponent's purple sites. If you
have two sites out, say a red and gold one, and your opponent only
has gold players in play, place the lost soul on the red site.
Option
2:
It is best, sometimes,
to leave the site empty to gain access to your opponent's site of
that color. Remember, once a lost soul is placed in a site, it may
not be moved unless it is redeemed (won). Make sure you watch
what color sites your opponent has in play so that you can leave
the right sites open to gain access to their lost souls.
Benefits
and Drawbacks
If you ask each Redemption
player if they enjoy playing sites, you will get a wide variety
of answers. Some feel that site cards add a new dimension and a
new set of strategies that enhance the game. Others say that sites
add too much randomness to the game, mainly because they can have
a winning hand of cards but are not be able to play them because
of not having site access.
For better or for
worse, site cards do make each game longer. Again, to some
that is a blessing, to others a curse. It is usually best
to check with players in your area to see what everyone else
is doing. If they are playing sites, you should too because
if you don't you won't have much of a chance of winning. If
players in your area are not playing sites, it would be unfair if
you did. Some players remedy this situation by having sites
with them to include in their deck if necessary, or taking them
out before they play if they play them. It really is up to
you.
